This weekend the 6th 7th and 8th February plays host to the 14th Consecutive  SPATEX swimming pool exhibition. The event takes place at The Hilton Metropole Hotel, Brighton.

All of the exhibitor’s will be well into setting up their display stands and display products. Some of the companies go as far as having fully operational swimming pools on display with the latest swimming pool covers, rollers, dosers or equipment in full operation.

The show is always a big hit among Swimming Pool Trade visitors and Swimming Pool Owners alike. The show always has the most advanced and most cutting edge equipment and technolodgy avaliable on the market. The show is also a great starting point for people who are looking to buy a pool and do not know where to start.

The Show allows for swimming pool companies such as Deep End Pools to view the latest products avaliable in 2010 with a full demonstration and guide through fromthe suppliers and manufacturers.

Deep End Pools today the 28th January 2010 attended Certikin annual swimming pool seminar. The seminar was held at the Hilton hotel in Warwick, Warwickshire.

In all 5 of the Deep End Pools team attended the seminar to learn of the latest news and most modern advancements in the swimming pool industry. Certikin International of Witney, Oxfordshire greeted all of their guests with tea and coffee before giving us all a full day of lectures, talks and advice.

Many new products were unveiled all with supporting talks from the specialist representative from Certikin to explain and promote the new technologies and ideas.

 

 

Deep End Pools were included in the seminar with reference to the new Supa Liner from Certikin North, Leeds. We were the first company in the country to install this much superior liner and photos of the installation were used in the seminar.

It was also a great opportunity for people in the trade to meet and discuss the past years events and installations as it is very rare to see so many people from the same industry as ourselves in one place.

In all it was a very positive and productive day with plenty of new things learnt and many others to consider to develop over the next year of trading.

There have been big talks about shaking up the rules and regulations on water for swimming pools and spas during water shortages in 2010 and onwards.

This Bill was raised in the recent Queen’s Speech debates in both the House of Commons and House of Lords and is now due to go for a Second Reading in the House of Commons on 15 December.  

 

The Water Management part of this Bill is important to our industry because there are plans to extend the types of uses of water that can be restricted when there are water shortages and these include:

·         Filling domestic swimming pools and paddling pools, whether by hosepipe or by permanent plumbing

·         Filling domestic hot tubs and similar bathing facilities, whether by hosepipe or by permanent plumbing

 These types of water uses may be restricted under various options being proposed by the Government and their preferred option appears to be to enable the Secretary of State to extend, by Order, the range of non essential uses of water, water companies could impose under their own powers. 

 This may mean that the government may give water companies the power to enforce what you can and can’t use your water for in times of short supply.

Our new swimming pool shop in Taplow Berkshire has generated some great new contacts with swimming pool owners in close proximity to the store, and today strengthened our swimming pool repair, maintenance and build services in the Cookham Dean area, with the acceptance for some repair work to an old 1980’s gazelle swimming pool.

Our client has chosen to carry out much needed swimming pool tile band repairs and upgrades to the swimming pool plant room to include some of the latest residential swimming pool applications such as UV and Ph control.

We are extremely grateful for the work, and look forward to starting fairly promptly, Cookham and the surrounding areas are great locations for swimming pool ownership with many plots offering great views and open field land.

Deep End Pools Beaconsfield and Taplow

Deep End Pools receives great support and service from all its employees and sub-contractors with a real team bond and the Family bond grows in 2009 with the recent employment of Simon Coombs, Brother of Robert Coombs owner and Founder of Deep End Pools ltd.

Simon completed his work experience for Deep End Pools in 2008, and naturally Simon wished to leave school and further his working career in the Swimming pool trade.

Simon has been servicing swimming pools, fitting liners, maintaining plant and machinery studying the ISPE home study course and attending supplier seminars to boost his learning and knowledge within the trade, fast tracking this keen school leaver to Engineer Status for the Deep End Pools 2010 swimming pool season.

Simon also enjoys water sports out of work, armed with his Yamaha super jet freestyle jet ski, he regularly attends west Thorpe water sports lake in Marlow (his second home) training ground for Ant Burgess world champion and Loki customs jet ski tuner.

Simon, has excellent electro mechanical skills having worked at a local garage in his home town of Tavistock Devon, with various ownerships of motocross bikes and trails bike his nimble spanners could be fixing your swimming pool pump sometime soon!

Deep End Pools were lucky enough to make the trip to the bi-annual Piscina BCN Internal swimming Pool Exhibition in Barcelona, Spain. The Exhibition is getting a reputation of being the world’s leading swimming pool exhibition. There were exhibiters from USA, South Africa, Australia, Italy, France, Belgium, China, Japan, Germany, Holland, England and Spain to name just a few. Each display stand had been planned and designed months before the show even opened its doors.

All of the big names such as Astral, Certikin, Kripsol, Kennet Water Components, AquaChek, Arch Chemicals, SCP, Bowman, Calorex, Fairlocks, Tylo, Waterco and Shezhen  Z.S.H. Industry Company Limited were there in force with some stands as big as shopping centres. All of the stands had full demo displays of their latest and most efficient new products.

The show was held at the world renowned Fira de Barcelona in 2 of its 7 halls. The final count was just over 350 different companies on display.

The products on display were a range of swimming pool pumps, swimming pool filters, swimming pool chemicals, swimming pool heaters and a range of swimming pool building techniques to name but a few.

The show should have given us some sort on indication of what SPATEX’s 2010 will have to offer the UK pool industry for the summer 2010 season.

There are an estimated 250,000 pools in residential homes across the UK – the majority of these being outdoor garden pools. About 3,000 pools a year are added as permanent installations with typical costs of about £30,000.

Despite popular opinion, once full, swimming pool owners do not routinely empty their pools. In fact, the only reason for emptying a pool is to carry out repair or maintenance work inside the pool, and even then it is often possible to avoid draining the water by using divers for repair work, or by transferring the water into an inflatable above ground pool for temporary storage while the work is carried out, to be returned when the job is finished.

The volume of an average in-ground domestic swimming pool is about 75,000 litres (10m x 5m x 1.5m). Water loss can occur in two ways:
Evaporation and splashing and/or backwashing the filter to clean it

The average loss from evaporation on an outdoor pool is only around 30 litres a day – less than the water used in a daily 2 minute shower.

Backwashing the average pool will pump some 500 litres in a two minute operation fortnightly, which is equivalent to 36 litres a day.

In total, therefore the average swimming pool uses only 66 litres a day – less than a daily bath, and less than 2 daily showers.

Hot tubs
The average hot tub holds about 1,500 litres. Once filled, it is heated, filtered and chemically treated and the water is recycled within the unit, so no effective water loss takes place. Most hot tubs have a fitted heat retaining cover which, when the tub is not in use, limits the evaporation loss in the same way as a swimming pool, but the potential loss of water through evaporation is minimal due to its much smaller volume. The British and Irish Spa and Hot Tub Association, a sister association to SPATA, recommends that the water in a hot tub is fully changed about every three months for hygiene reasons. This therefore gives an annual water usage of 6,000 litres or 16 litres a day – less than half the water used in a daily two minute shower.

Looking at the weather reports for the rest of the week it appears that summer is finally here.

 

Today:

Mist and low cloud will quickly clear, then it will be a dry day with scattered cloud and bright or sunny periods developing. Winds will be mainly light giving a pleasantly warm feel. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Tonight:

It will continue dry with clear spells and broken cloud layers. Where cloud breaks persist in rural areas it will feel cool. Winds will be mainly light northwesterly or variable. Minimum temperature 11 °C.

Friday:

Another dry day with sunny periods and patchy cloud. Feeling pleasantly warm in sheltered areas with light northwesterly winds. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

It will continue dry through the period with some decent sunny spells and broken cloud. Winds will fall to light later.
