Deep End Pools receives great support and service from all its employees and sub-contractors with a real team bond and the Family bond grows in 2009 with the recent employment of Simon Coombs, Brother of Robert Coombs owner and Founder of Deep End Pools ltd.

Simon completed his work experience for Deep End Pools in 2008, and naturally Simon wished to leave school and further his working career in the Swimming pool trade.

Simon has been servicing swimming pools, fitting liners, maintaining plant and machinery studying the ISPE home study course and attending supplier seminars to boost his learning and knowledge within the trade, fast tracking this keen school leaver to Engineer Status for the Deep End Pools 2010 swimming pool season.

Simon also enjoys water sports out of work, armed with his Yamaha super jet freestyle jet ski, he regularly attends west Thorpe water sports lake in Marlow (his second home) training ground for Ant Burgess world champion and Loki customs jet ski tuner.

Simon, has excellent electro mechanical skills having worked at a local garage in his home town of Tavistock Devon, with various ownerships of motocross bikes and trails bike his nimble spanners could be fixing your swimming pool pump sometime soon!

many factors when choosing your swimming pool supplier may come into play, if budget is not one of them the likelihood is the you will receive good product of decent merchantable quality because let’s face it, if the manufacturers have cut their costs in production it usually means they have also cut the quality.

Whilst at the show in Barcelona we met Chinese distributors selling items from Chemicals to Heaters and pool cleaning equipment, so how do you tell what is what? well very difficult we always advise to stick with a good swimming pool chemical brand like Plastica, Bayrol, Arch chemicals, Fi-CLor its pretty much a given this product is good, net brushes poles well this we deem a kind of a swimming pool consumable so if these were Chinese sourced it’s not too much of a problem as their replacement cost is fairly low.

But at the same time the pool maintenance equipment produced by Certikin some years ago is still out there in the field to date, so buy cheap buy twice.

Deep End Pools were lucky enough to make the trip to the bi-annual Piscina BCN Internal swimming Pool Exhibition in Barcelona, Spain. The Exhibition is getting a reputation of being the world’s leading swimming pool exhibition. There were exhibiters from USA, South Africa, Australia, Italy, France, Belgium, China, Japan, Germany, Holland, England and Spain to name just a few. Each display stand had been planned and designed months before the show even opened its doors.

All of the big names such as Astral, Certikin, Kripsol, Kennet Water Components, AquaChek, Arch Chemicals, SCP, Bowman, Calorex, Fairlocks, Tylo, Waterco and Shezhen  Z.S.H. Industry Company Limited were there in force with some stands as big as shopping centres. All of the stands had full demo displays of their latest and most efficient new products.

The show was held at the world renowned Fira de Barcelona in 2 of its 7 halls. The final count was just over 350 different companies on display.

The products on display were a range of swimming pool pumps, swimming pool filters, swimming pool chemicals, swimming pool heaters and a range of swimming pool building techniques to name but a few.

The show should have given us some sort on indication of what SPATEX’s 2010 will have to offer the UK pool industry for the summer 2010 season.

UV or (Ultra violet) disinfection of water consists of a purely physical, chemical-free process. UV-C radiation in particular, with a wavelength in the 240 to 280 nanometers range, attacks the vital DNA of the bacteria directly. The radiation initiates a photochemical reaction that destroys the genetic information contained in the DNA. The bacteria lose their reproductive capability and are destroyed. Even parasites such as Cryptosporidia, which are extremely resistant to chemical disinfectants, are efficiently reduced. UV can also be used to remove chlorine and chlormaine species from water; this process is called photolysis, and requires a higher dose than normal disinfection.

Deep End Pools have installed a Certikin liner in a new build swimming pool in Burnham, Berkshire.

The liner was installed and now the pool is filling ready for it to be in used in just a few days. The next step will be to cut out the fittings through the liner once the pool has enough water in the there to hold the liner in its final position. The plantroom has been plumbed up ready for commissioning.

The swimming pool construction in Burnham, Berkshire in nearly ready to be completely handed over to it’s lucky new owners.

The smell of chlorine in a pool is usually accompanied by irritation to the eyes, nose, lungs and skin of the swimmers. The pool smell is not due to chlorine but to chloramines, chemical compounds that build up in pool water when there is not enough free chlorine.

Chloramines are the result of two ingredients:

·         chlorine and

·         sweat, oils or urine that are brought into the pool by the swimmers.

Chlorine disinfectants are added to pool water to destroy germs that can cause illness. Sweat, oils and urine are unwanted additions to pool water. Showering before swimming can help minimize the formation of chloramines and the smelly pool.

The Chemistry of Chloramines

When chlorine disinfectants are added to water, two chemicals are formed: hypochlorous acid and hypochlorite ion. Hypochlorous acid is known as “free available chlorine” or FAC and has the potential to destroy waterborne germs. Pool owners should manage the FAC level of pool water for the safety of swimmers. Free available chlorine is reduced when it reacts with swimmer waste to form these smelly chloramines.

Minimizing Chloramine Smells

Swimmers with red, irritated eyes complain that there is too much chlorine in the pool. When pool water is irritating, there is almost always not enough free chlorine in the pool water.

Chloramines, which produce the typical pool smell, can be destroyed using chlorine or non-chlorine shocks. A shock treatment destroys the ammonia and organic compounds that combine with chlorine to make chloramines.
