Closing a pool

September 29th, 2009

Deep End Pools close a large number of pools at the end of the swimming pool season. We have two main methods we use. Drain down methods or the more popular method over the last few seasons has been to leave them running for a few hours a day. Either way you choose you have to follow some basic steps to ensure the best protection of your pool you can over the winter period.

  • Remove matter from pool by vacuuming – Clean the pool using, Certikin maintenance equipment, as much as possible. This will reduce your chances of staining as we mentioned above.
  • Backwash filter for prolonged period until completely clear – If you total shut your pool off in the winter, the debris/ bacteria in the filter will be sat for up to 6 months! So clean it as much as possible.
  • If you are having a drain down winterisation lower pool level 2-4 inches below skimmer mouths but not more than 18 inches below coping stones. Remember if you have a safety cover not to lower you pool too far. So pool does not become damaged by water table.
  • Drain filtration system and exposed pipe work – to minimise the chance of frost damage to your equipment.
  • Drain and empty any chemical in feeders or dosing equipment.
  • Place all plugs in secure place – Such as pump basket.
  • Wrap summer cover and place in storage to reduce chances of damage from the elements.
  • Wash down any automatic pool cleaners and store in plant room.
  • Remove any accessories, e.g. steps, boards, rollers, nets, brushes and store.
  • Isolate electrical supply to pool equipment, spray motors and other devices with a water dispersant.
  • Remove skimmer baskets and store in plant room – To prevent frost damage.
  • Isolate gas supply to boiler, switch off power, and drain safety device.
  • Adjust pH to 7.2 using the required chemical, in our area it would normally be ph-
  • Super chlorinate pool water to 10ppm using shock chemical such as Fi-Clor Superfast Shock.
  • Dose the pool with Winter Algaecide – To prevent algae growth in the pool.
  • We would then thoroughly mix chemicals in pool using our satellite pumps.
  • Half fill some empty chemical containers and float them on pools surface to absorb any frost that forms on the pools surface.
  • Place a float in each skimmer to prevent the skimmer pots cracking
  • Fit and adjust winter cover – Bear in mind that a winter debris cover is your pools single best form of defence over the winter period, so a good quality cover is a must.

pH Perfect – Trouble Free Water pH balance!

    September 28th, 2009

Many swimming pool owners have great difficulty correcting their pH. It always seems to be a constant battle, More pH Minus, oh no now more pH Plus and all you seem to be doing is buying more and more chemical and what you eventually achieve is nothing but an incorrect pH balance and a TDS level in the pool.

pH Perfect measures the pH with a probe located in the filtration system, which constantly measures the pH of the water in the pool. According to the value measured, pH Perfect adjusts the pH of the water with its single dosing pump by adding a liquid corrective product, either a solution of acid or base required.

pH Perfect is easily installed on either new or existing systems it can be combined with all types of water treatment whether manual or automatic and when used in conjunction with a salt chlorinator it can extend the chlorinators life span and reduces the maintenance on the cell.

In the local area to us we often use and acidic solution as we are prone to high Ph levels in our water supplies. The unit can be installed in just a few hours and then that will lead to a lot less manual additions of chemical to the swimming pools water.

Site visit today Proves Calorex really are one of the best heat pumps

    September 25th, 2009

A site visit today really did remind us why we choose to offer high quality Calorex heat pumps, the pool was 30 years old and the swimming pool air source heat pump was the original, the failing to the heat pump was the corrosion to the heat pump cabinet however lets face it 30 years there are not many 30 year old cars on the road.

needless to say we will be swapping the heat pump like for like, the site was in Maidenhead near the fisherys area. Berkshire.

So if your looking for a good quality air source heat pump, that will last in our opinion the Calorex unit is a pretty safe bet.

swimming pool heater call on demand to deal with night time losses

    September 25th, 2009

Whilst the weather is splendid currently, have you had a feel of the temperature in the late evening temperatures are sneaking to below 10 degrees this means one thing…… swimming pool heat loss!

So if your finding your swimming pool is calling for heat a little more at the moment this will simply be why, as the nights draw in closer to BWT it is likely you demand for heat in the swimming pool will increase.

as long as your heater is specified to work in these parameters of late season this is great however if it is not, it probably is worth calling the season over as the heating device will be working its little heart out and you efficiency may have dropped due to the lower temperatures especially if it is an air source heat pump with a summer season specification.

    Swimming Pool Liner Installation

    September 24th, 2009

Deep End Pools are able to install liners on all pools. The past season we have come up againest concrete pools, steel panel pools, polymer panel pools, formworks pools and just about every other style. We have also come up againest are fair share of shaped pools from rectangle with a flat bottom, Oval with a hopper and even an L shaped pool.

The pools have been dotted all around the area but mainly, Beaconsfield, Gerrards Cross, Farnham Common, Amersham, Cookham, Maidenhead, Reading, High Wycombe and Oxford.

The Guys have installed well over 50 liners this year, The guys are starting to think they can fit them in their sleep!

The hardest liner we have had to fit this year has not been on a monster 40′ x 20′ by 10′ deep pool. It was in fact on this pool here

The pool is around 20 year old cascade pool.

The liner as you can see has several different twists and turns to contend againest. If the shape of the pool was not enough the floor and walls are extremely ‘undulating’. The guy’s were really againest the odds. Liners in general started by locating the corners and squaring the material up. With a kidney shaped pool the liner is one large corner, with no start or finish.

The liner was put into position and kicked into place. Liners in are normally made a little bit too small and strectched into place. With the cascade style pool the coping stone is the liner lock as well. As soon as the guys were getting a section in place and strecthing the liner into place the old coping stone would ‘pop’ off.

With lots of perserverence and a little elbow grease the liner was into correct position and left to fill up to the first set of fittiings.

We take are hats of to the hard work and effort from the guy’s that made the liner fit perfectly.

If you would like Deep End Pools to install you a new liner please call 01494 671787 now!
